Rachel and Deadrick won a photo contest I held last winter for a couples session. At the time, however, Deadrick was deployed so we had to wait until his return in July, which was fine with me because I wanted warm weather anyways! Well, the summer came and went and our schedules never quite synched up and the air was usually filled with too much smoke for us to head up to the mountains (which is where we had intended to do the photos). As the close of September was nearing, I was beginning to get nervous that our time was running out to get their session in. A couple weeks ago, Washington weather began to shift to be cold and rainy, and Mount Rainier started to receive snow. I was feeling rather hopeless that I would ever meet these two lovers. Well, Mother Nature must have sensed my devastation because she allowed us a brief window of 80+ degree, sunny weather! I asked Rachel if her and Deadrick were free during that time, and to much hesitancy, they were! I was ecstatic. I wanted to make sure this session was super special for them, after Rachel explained to me that they had never really had formal wedding photos, and their 10-year marriage anniversary was quickly approaching. So I arranged to have the amazing Fleurae biz craft up some incredible floral details (bouquet + crown), and an extremely talented make-up artist, Kassidy, hooked her up with a gorgeous makeup session. Everything was falling into place. When we arrived to Paradise on Mount Rainier, we gathered up all of our belongings and hiked the relatively steep hill ascending higher up the mountain. We were so close, it felt like we could reach out and touch the summit. We spent the rest of our evening laughing hysterically, playing games, learning about each other’s lives and pointing out the many similarities that we shared. Rachel and Deadrick are best friends first, parents second, and so obviously soul mates who put silliness and love at the forefront of their relationship. Congratulations on ten beautiful years together, and cheers to many more.
